WildWings Nature & Arts Festival

Celebrating The Return of the Trumpeter Swans

About Us

The WildWings Nature & Arts Festival is an annual event, established by the Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society, which coincides with the seasonal return of the Trumpeter Swans, the biggest flying birds in North America and an important species to the Somenos Marsh.

This year’s festival kicks off on October 4th at Just Jake’s Restaurant on Craig Street with a launch party and art show. The festival continues for the remainder of the month with fun-filled educational events where you can learn more about our local ecosystem and the Somenos Marsh.    The Somenos Marsh

Somenos Marsh is a wonderful wild area on Southern Vancouver Island fringing both the Duncan and North Cowichan urban areas. In 1988 the BC Ministry of Environment identified Somenos as “one of the best places to view wildlife close to an urban centre.” In 2000 Somenos Marsh achieved a special designation when Bird Life International recognized it as a ‘globally significant’ Important Bird Area (IBA).

Art Events

We have two big art events coming up in the fall! One is the Art Show at Just Jake’s on October 4th, and the other is a youth art contest where the winner gets to have their work featured on the official Somenos Marsh button.

Submission deadlines are coming up quick for both events, so don’t hesitate to submit! You can submit your work for both events via email by contacting events@somenosmarsh.com.
